International Building Projects
The field of work of IBO is concentrated in Europe, and by origin mostly in Central and Eastern European countries. However, there are also projects in other parts of the world, for instance in Asia, Africa and South-America.
Most projects are organised in the summer, but you can also participate in projects during the early or late season. The size of the group you work in normally varies between five and fifteen members. The work consists of a wide range of building activities and is different for each project. Some examples are: demolishing, shaving, painting, hammering, plastering etc.
You don't need to be a professional though; the work that’s selected for the volunteers can be done by anyone. Local experts will usually give instructions about the works. The only condition to participate is that you have to be at least 18 years old and in good health.
During the project, work takes place on weekdays. In the evenings and in the weekends, you are free to explore the country. Sometimes activities are organised by the organisation, but mostly the leisure time activities depend on the group’s own initiatives and the local possibilities. The locals often have good suggestions on where to go and what to do.
